Our Nations Capitol

Back in January my dad booked a "father/daughter" trip to Washington D.C. to sight see and visit my older brother Steve. It felt like it took FOREVER for April to get here, never mind our departure date! I was counting down the weeks and then days, and then hours until we got to leave!
Last time I was in D.C. I was about 7 years old. I don't remember much at all except the train ride there from Rhode Island, my first hotel stay, and very little of the historic sights. Lets be serious, I was 7, a mere kid. I didn't  care much about the history and sights of D.C. back then.
We were only there for 3 full days, and D.C. has A LOT to see. The first day we spent walking around the mall. Visiting Thomas Jefferson, MLK Memorial, The Washington Monument and a tour of the Federal Printing and Engraving Building where they print money. We were blessed with perfect spring weather, to bad we missed the Cherry Blossoms due to an early heat wave. Good thing we had our walking shoes on because we walked over 5 miles easily that day. Earned our lunch at The Old Ebbit Grill, a local spot for politicians and celebrities. Then the short trek back to the hotel for a nap before heading out to dinner at Marvin. The food here was AMAZING. Make sure you get the grilled watermelon salad. Perfect for summer.
Friday was spent at George Washingtons estate at Mt Vernon. Man, that guy was cool! He was so ahead of his time, was a mans man and inventor. The grounds of his estate were gorgeous!
After lunch and shopping in the cute town of Alexandria while everyone napped, I was able to squeeze my shoulder workout in at the hotel gym. I was pleased with myself.
My brother Steve took us to dinner to one of his favorite spots called Birch and Barley. Again, we weren't disappointed with the food. Mouth watering. We had to be rolled out of there.Stellar beer list, and amazing Belgium fare.
Saturday was brunch and walking the waterfront in Georgetown. I could live in this town if I could afford it. Maybe one day. Saturday night my brother and his room mate Shar had us over a home cooked meal, which was a nice change of pace, and the meal was hands down delicious!
Sunday came quick, and before I knew it, we were flying back to Phoenix. D.C. still holds many adventures for me, so I hope to return soon!
